The University of ������ο��Ƶ signed a memorandum of understanding with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to increase suicide prevention and awareness at its nine member institutions.

“The mental health of our campus communities continues to be a focus for the System, and this partnership ensures our students, faculty and staff have access to the wealth of high-quality anti-suicide resources and programming that AFSP has to offer,” said Dr. Erica Calais, ������ο��Ƶ System vice president for student services, safety, and resilience. “It seems that every semester we lose someone in our community to suicide and this partnership will equip faculty, staff and students to recognize signs and take action.”

Despite its complexity, suicide can be prevented. During the two years of the agreement, both organizations will work to combat suicide, the third leading cause of death for young adults ages 10 – 34.

“This incredible opportunity allows AFSP to bring critical suicide prevention education to thousands of students and faculty across the University of ������ο��Ƶ,” said Meghan Goldbeck, Executive Director of AFSP Louisiana.

AFSP Louisiana will collaborate with the ������ο��Ƶ System to deliver suicide prevention education to students and faculty at the System’s nine member institutions including programs such as AFSP’s Talk Saves Lives, Introduction to Supporting Those at Risk, and It’s Real: College Students and Mental Health.��
