Today the Board of Supervisors for the University of ������ο��Ƶ met in Baton Rouge for its regular Board meeting. 

SYSTEM PARTNERS WITH 100 BLACK MEN

The University of ������ο��Ƶ signed a memorandum of understanding with 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge that enables the organizations to partner in their shared mission to change lives through education and mentorship. In addition to making last-dollar scholarships available to The 100’s program participants, the MOU provides increased access to information about the System’s member institutions through campus tours and direct contact with System and university leaders.

“Partnering with organizations like The 100 is one of the ways we fulfill our strategic vision of a more educated Louisiana,” ������ο��Ƶ System President Jim Henderson said. “Through mentorship and education, The 100 works to ensure Baton Rouge youth are better prepared for college, and our institutions stand ready to further the organization’s work when their students arrive on our campuses.”

Formed to enhance the lives of African-American youth in the Greater Baton Rouge area, 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge seeks to serve as a beacon of leadership and transformation for area students.

“As an organization we recognize education as a pathway to social mobility and a more fulfilled future,” said Fred Sibley, Chairman and President of 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge.

“We are extremely excited about working with the ������ο��Ƶ System and connecting our students with its nine universities. This partnership allows us to further put our mission into action as we collectively work to change lives and strengthen communities,” added Executive Director, Trey Godfrey.

This partnership enhances the ������ο��Ƶ System’s commitment to diversity and inclusion and allows for increased services and mentorship for students of color.

SIBILLE CONFERENCE ROOM DEDICATED

The Board of Supervisors for the University of ������ο��Ƶ honored former Board member Winfred Sibille by naming the System’s conference room in his honor. The System dedicated the room to Sibille for his commitment to public service, especially his tireless advocacy for all levels of public education.

“Because of his years of dedication to not only our System, but our state, it is appropriate that we name one of the System’s primary meeting spaces after our friend Win,” Board Chair Mark Romero said. “His leadership during his 24 years of service is missed by our entire Board, but his influence will last for years to come.”

Sibille was first appointed to the Board of Supervisors for the University of ������ο��Ƶ in 1995. He is the longest serving member in the Board’s history. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette recognized Sibille’s continued public service by presenting him with an honorary doctorate in 2018.

BOARD OFFICERS INSTALLED

The Board of Supervisors for the University of ������ο��Ƶ installed officers today. Continuing in their leadership roles are Chair Mark Romero of New Iberia, Vice Chair James Carter of New Orleans, and Parliamentarian Liz Pierre of Monroe.

Matthew Block, executive counsel to the governor, administered the oath of office to Chair Romero and Parliamentarian Pierre. Carter was not present to give his oath of office and will be sworn in at a later date.

BOARD ACTION:

Northwestern State University: approval of a 2020 Unclassified (including Faculty) Pay Plan.
University of New Orleans: approval to appoint Dr. Gloria J. Walker as Vice President for Business Affairs/CFO effective January 20, 2020.
