SYSTEM HONORS FAC������ο��ƵTY AND STAFF MEMBERS OF THE YEAR

University of ������ο��Ƶ President and CEO Jim Henderson presented awards for faculty and staff member of the year during the second annual For Our Future Conference at ������ο��Ƶ Lafayette.

Michelle Foreman, who serves as the resource coordinator for the ������ο��Ƶ Lafayette College of Engineering, was named Staff Member of the year. Her nomination letter credited her with modernizing and organizing the financial data for the college and  touted her caring and loving characteristics when interacting with students.

M. Kabir Hassan, professor of economics and finance at UNO, was named faculty member of the year. His nomination letter detailed his nearly 30-year career at UNO and his numerous awards and publications. He is one of the world’s most influential authors in Islamic banking and finance and takes his duties as an educator just as seriously as his duties as a researcher. As a mentor he has chaired 50 successful dissertations and sat on the committee of another 21. He is generous with his time and effort and is a shining example of the impact a dedicated faculty member can have on both their field and their students.

The annual Faculty and Staff awards are given at the culmination of each System Conference. The 2019 For Our Future conference attracted more than 450 faculty and staff from the System’s nine universities for professional development and collaboration.

MOU BETWEEN MEMBER INSTITUTIONS APPROVED

The ������ο��Ƶ System Board approved a request by the University of New Orleans to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with Nicholls State University. This MOU is a partnership to enhance cooperation and increase student offerings. Namely, this partnership will allow students initially enrolled at Nicholls to complete required courses in Thibodaux before transferring to UNO to pursue a bachelor of science in engineering programs and students initially enrolled at UNO can complete courses in New Orleans before transferring to Nicholls to pursue a degree in geomatics. This partnership will also enable the universities to proceed with collaborative research ventures involving students with engineering, surveying, and environmental issues.

The Board also approved Student Transfer Agreement with Delgado Community College to support the transfer of students from the community college to the four-year university. More information on the partnership can be found .
